An election official or electoral administrator is an official responsible for the holding of elections. This can include officials responsible for all or part of the electoral process, such as voter registration, canvassing, the poll and voting, the count, or another element. Election officials are usually full or part time roles, depending on the jurisdiction, however there are also more temporary roles, such as those working at the poll or count. Electoral administrators are typically appointed officials and must be impartial, although in some jurisdictions, such as the United States, they may be elected and a member of a political party, but must usually still act impartially.
